Road safety with Goxhill school children

Getting hands-on with road safety

Practical advice for Goxhill primary school children.

We take safety on our project very seriously, and this extends to the communities impacted by our work.  Traffic can be dangerous and construction traffic has its unique challenges – from decreased visibility to longer stopping distances.  To improve the students awareness and safety on the roads, we invited pupils from Goxhill and New Holland Primary Schools to our Goxhill site to get practical advice on how to be safe on the roads and get up close and personal with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV).

Goxhill pipeline project

Digging deep in Goxhill

How we handled 200,000 tonnes of excavated tunnel material.

Our project involved the construction of a tunnel approximately five kilometres in length and four metres in diameter. The tunneling process produced some 200,000 tonnes of material (known as “arisings”), that had to be taken off site.

The Importance of Recycling

At Allied Plant, we care about the environment, and recycling is one of the best ways to make a positive impact on the planet, both to the natural environment and to humanity. Recycling starts at home, so simply having a separate bin for your plastics and paper is a great start!

Environmental Importance

The main importance of recycling is; to make the environment clean, conserve materials, save energy, and reduce Garbage in Landfills.

Due to the harmful chemicals released from waste in landfill sites, recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by the rubbish, converting them back into new products.

By doing this we are also contributing to helping global warming and deforestation, which is affected by pollution. By recycling, we can reduce the need for raw materials so that rainforests can be preserved.

Human Importance

It’s important to think of the people and places around the world affected by the environment. Firstly, by recycling, the economy will save a huge amount of money as making products from raw materials costs much more than if they were made from recycled products.

Secondly, increased pollution affects the health of the population. Recycling can help reduce pollution, preventing risks such as heart disease, lung cancer and respiratory diseases.

And, as recycling reduces the need for raw materials it also uses less energy, preserving natural resources for the future.

Last Month’s ‘Snow Day’ in Wakefield: Delivered by Allied Plant

Here at Allied Plant, we offer excavation, plant hire and haulage services to the commercial, industrial and residential sector. The professional services we offer are versatile and there are no jobs too big or small! Last month in Wakefield, there was a surprising and unexpected ‘snow day’ that took place which we helped to create with our grab Wagons. And it captured the hearts of children and families everywhere who simply couldn’t wait until winter for their next sledging adventure.

Trinity Walk Shopping Centre teamed up with Snozone at Xscape in Yorkshire to create a real snow sledging experience for shoppers to enjoy. And together with a free snowboarding simulator, the event certainly turned some heads and put some smiles on faces. So we’re very pleased to have been of service to all the organisers. Taking place in the city centre, snow was delivered by the truckload with the help of Allied Plant vehicles. And after a few hours are unloading and hard graft from the Snozone team, the sledging track was finally ready for action. With the assistance of our sturdy 8 x 4 steel bodied tipper grab wagons, an impressive 45 tonnes of snow was dropped off in Wakefield centre – all for the purpose of some winter themed family fun!

“Two hours and three massive truck-loads later we had a queue of kids ready to sledge and they just kept on coming. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the parents’ pride when even the youngest flew down the hill was just brilliant and a great start to the holidays.” – Lucy Grice, Trinity Walk Marketing Manager.
